This occasion marks the transition of the Sun. the significance of this festival is to celebrate the deity Surya (Sun) to mark the first day of the sun’s transit into Makara rashi. At AIPS we celebrated Makar Sankranti on 16 January 2023.
We began with the class assembly where Ms. Simran Chhabria told the learners about the importance of the Makar Sankranti. Then Ms. Anam Arkate explained in detail about the festival and Ms. Abigail Tixeira gave the learners a deeper understanding about the day and how across India although its significance is the same yet it is celebrated in different ways.
After the assembly the learners proceeded to the classroom. The facilitators then showed a video on the flying of the kite and explained the art of kite-making to the eager minds. Simultaneously the activity of kite making began as the facilitators guided the learners to prepare a kite. The learners with the help of the facilitators had fun making creative kites. The Nursery learners painted their kites with delightful colours. It was then time for the break where the learners brought the speciality of the festival of Makar Sankrant - Tilgul ladoos and shared with their classmates and facilitators as they said ‘Tilgul ghya god god bola’ spreading the message of kindness in one’s speech and demeanour.
