The entire nation was throbbing with ONE EMOTION that of immense gratitude to the National Leaders who through their concerted and selfless dedication won Independence for India 75 years ago. At AIPS, it was a golden opportunity to embed in our learners the belongingness to our Nation and grow in our expression of love and knowledge about our Country. Hence it was an “Independence Week Celebration” from 8th to 13th of August 2022.
- 8th August – Finger Printing
Our first activity in anticipation of the 75th Independence Day was the finger print activity where the learners painted their fingers with the Tri-color and put the impression of it in the almanac with the caption ‘I LOVE MY INDIA’. Through this activity we also educated them about the three colours and its significance. The learners were delighted with the colours and did it very well.
- 10th August – Saffron (Orange) Food Day
Now that we had explained to the learners about the Tri-color, we decided to focus on them individually and so on 10th August we asked the learners to bring in Orange coloured food to enjoy during their snack time. We also emphasized on the importance of orange color that means sacrifice and orange food in our diet like oranges contains vitamin C for strong gums / teeth and carrots improve our eye sight. The learners were intrigued by the various benefits of orange food. They enjoyed their snack as they also learned the significance of the top band of the Indian Flag.
- 11th August - Food Grain Flag / White food
On 11th August we had the activity of decorating our Flag with food grains. Where the top band saffron was decorated with orange lentils, the white band with rice and the green band with green gram (moong beans). Through this activity we explained to them how our mother land provides us with the crops that we consume on a daily basis. And about the other abundant gifts we are blessed with.
Along with this we also asked the learners to bring white food to emphasize the middle white band of the Flag that stands for peace and unity. Learners brought white food items like egg white, roasted makhana, curds, cheese, bread etc. and they learnt about the goodness of dairy products rich in calcium that helps them to have strong bones and teeth. Proteins of eggs and carbohydrates of bread and makhana give them energy for their daily activities.
- 12th August – Green Food day
To celebrate the Green colour, we asked the learners to bring green coloured food item where we explained to them the significance of the green colour that is prosperity and fertility. For this day, the learners had brought food items like cucumber, kiwi, methi paratha, etc. Green vegetables and fruits provide vitamins, minerals and fibre and thus helps digestion together with other health benefits.
- 13th August – Independence Day Celebration
The 75th Independence Day indeed a day to celebrate for all the sacrifices and struggle of those who fought for our freedom for years together. And so we at AIPS wished to celebrate this important milestone that our country India has achieved. The preparations for the day began days prior where the learners all excited prepared for the various programs. Invites for the same were sent to parents through a digital mode.
We celebrated the Independence Day program on 13th August 2022, the day began with all the learners walking in with their parents for the program. As the parents settled, the learners all dressed in white were donned with the gold laced tri-colour sash. The programme began with a short prayer followed by the Flag-hoisting by our Chief Guest Ms. Poonam Sangle, the parent of our Senior K.G. learner Advika Deshmukh who is serving in the Mumbai Police Force. As the flag was hoisted, we all saluted the flag and recited the pledge. The flag hoisting was then followed by the National Anthem.
The cultural program then began with all the performances set by our learners. The Tiranga action song set the tone for the day as the learners marched rhythmically on with great enthusiasm performing different acts of the song. This was followed by the State’s song by our five learners hailing from Gujarat – Prisha Shah, Maharashtra – Tvarita Patil, Kerala – Saavi Mokal, Maharashtra: Spruha Jadhav and Punjab: Advika Gore. It was then the round of the speeches : “The Three Colours of the National Flag” by Junior K.G. learner Advika Gore and “75 years of Independence” by Senior K.G. learner – Namrata Rathod. The concluding performance was the foot tapping dance on the beats of “Jai Ho” that the learners put up with the help of our Dance Instructor, Ms. Fausta Fernandes.
The parents appreciated the efforts of the learners with a round of applause as their faces gleamed with joy to see their little ones up on the stage. We then invited our Chief Guest Ms. Poonam Sangle to say a few words. As a Police officer she advised parents to abide by all the civil laws set by the State. On a personal note, as an active citizen of Independent India, she helped the parents of our young learners understand the importance of giving opportunities to their girl child without any hesitation. She also encouraged them to educate their girl child as much as they wished to. Her message to all was to befriend their daughter so that she can build trust with their family members and this will make their child strong to face any challenge that life throws at them with great confidence.
Our Manager Sr. Magdeline Sequeira thanked the Chief Guest and parents for taking time out and attending the programme. The programme ended with the vote of thanks and felicitating our Chief Guest with our token of love.
Indeed, the Independence Day programme ignited the light of patriotism towards our country India.
