The theme of ‘World Food Day’ for this year was ‘Leave no one Behind’. The objective behind this initiative is to bring about the sense of responsibility towards our fellow friends around the globe. This day is celebrated across the world on 16th October. At AIPS too we celebrated this day with great zeal.
At AIPS we revolved around the food item- Rice, In the anticipation of this day beginning from the 10th October we showed the learners a food item that was famous and commonly prepared in every household. Each day a rice food item such as dal rice, khichdi, biryani, pulav and fried rice was shown and the importance of this food was explained to the learners during the assembly time. The learning activity was to identify the name (on the Menu card) and the above food items which was done through a matching the food dish with the food name.
On the morning of 14th October we welcomed our friends once again from Sahayani to celebrate this day. For the day’s celebration we had asked our learners to bring an extra snack box along for their friends. The parents of the learners too showed great enthusiasm for the same. The day began with the daily assembly where we invoked the blessings of God for the food we eat every day. We also prayed for everyone who struggle to have their daily meals. As the children from Sahayani joined us, we took them to the respective classes to join their friends. Here they did some action songs. Then the learners from AIPS shared their snacks with their friends. The joy of selfless giving was seen on the gleaming faces of our learners and the sense of gratitude among our dear friends from Sahayani. Before they had their snack the home room facilitators led them into a short prayer before meals. As they prayed together the atmosphere was full of positivity and gratitude. They all then began their snack time as the introduced themselves to each other and shared their happy meals. After the sharing, all of the children together moved to the play area where the facilitators did an action sing with them and expressed their appreciation to the children from Sahayani who joined us. We also gave the message that ‘sharing is caring’ which they all chanted together as one.
As the day came to an end, all of us at AIPS were content of the experience we were able to give our leaners, values that they can hold onto to be responsible citizens in the society tomorrow.
