A daughter is one of the most beautiful gifts the world has to give - Laurel Atherton. 8th September 2022 was celebrated as Girl child day at AIPS –an initiative to enlighten our learners on Gender Equality. Indeed a good reason to appreciate the wonder of being a girl. To celebrate this day all our learners came dressed in varied hues of pink. As they walked in their faces radiated with joy. The day began with a special assembly where we spoke to them about Girl Child day and its significance. We also told them how special and important they are. We then played the songs “I am special” and “I know I have it in me” which we had been showing them in anticipation of Girl Child day. The learners then moved to the class where they carried out the day’s activity where we printed out their pictures in pink outfits and they pasted it on their almanac and wrote a sentence that said “I like my __________”. This was to make them dwell about their inner beauty that each girl child possesses. We then adorned their tiny wrists with pink ribbon bows symbolizing strength and courage. Another delight that awaited their learning was the formation of the color PINK. To their utter surprise, Sr. Sandra came in with a glass of milk and added rose syrup …. The white of the milk blended so well with the red of the Rose syrup and lo and behold a pleasant pink appeared. The learning was double edged – the colours that make pink and the ingredients that make a Falooda. A spoonful of it was a little joy that kept them smiling at the learning.
The girl child day turned out to be a pink lettered day, where the entire concept about the girl child revolved around the fun of the color pink. Our learners thoroughly enjoyed themselves as learnt about themselves in self appreciation a boost to their self-esteem.
