CELEBRATING THE YUMMINESS OF CHOCOLATE !

Chocolate in some form or the other is loved by every individual. From kids to grandparents, we all love chocolate but don’t you wonder, where does chocolate come from? Do chocolate bars grow on trees? Who invented this phenomenon that we indulge sinfully in today? Come let’s learn a little more about it.
Chocolate in its raw form come from the fruit of the cacao tree, which is native to South and Central America and today 70% of the world’s cacao production comes from Africa. The first chocolate bar was created by Francis Fry, with brands Cadbury and Mars. Nestle made the world's first white chocolate bar in 1930.
Now the question is why do we celebrate it on the 7th July, the date was chosen as it is believed that the iconic dessert entered Europe on this very day in 1550. The first World Chocolate Day was marked in 2009. And so we at AIPS wanted to our little learners to know all about chocolate and excitedly we prepared for the celebrations. The day commenced with our learners assembling on our outdoor play area for the morning assembly where they prayed their daily prayers along with an action song of ‘walk, walk, walk in the light’. Our supervisor Sr. Sandra Fernandes gave them the morning talk by introducing the day we were celebrating. Sr. Sandra narrated a beautiful story of a prince and a princess with puppets. The assembly ended with our National Anthem after which the learners moved towards their classes.
We first showed them a video on the origin of chocolate and how it’s transformed from a cacao pod to a silky, smooth bar of chocolate. The learners were all amazed to look at this process and requested to watch the video again. We also showed them a video of the making of white chocolate. They watched the videos with a great deal of interest. Sr. Gloria our principal had displayed various variety of chocolate in different forms like cocoa powder, Nutella, dark chocolate, white chocolate, etc. We also explained the benefits and uses of each.
For our celebration our learners bought chocolate cupcakes and a dairy milk. As our first activity we melted chocolate to put as frosting on the cupcakes. In this process we showed them how chocolate changes its form from solid to liquid when in contact with heat. The learners had fun as we smeared the chocolate ganache on their cupcakes. After this they relished their lip-smacking chocolate cupcakes topped with chocolate ganache and a gem. As their take-away activity they got their hands messy and painted a popsicle with brown paint ice cubes. Alongside they pasted the chocolate wrapper to a chocolate outline painted chocolatey by the learners.
The day ended with our learners faces elated with the joy of celebrating chocolate day with their classmates and facilitators.
