WORLD OZONE DAY

The depletion of the ozone layer has been causing humankind great harm and in order to raise awareness and protect the ozone layer, 16th September is designated by United Nations General Assembly as World Ozone Day. This is an attempt to save the ozone layer of the earth that is under threat due to global warming. We too at AIPS celebrated World Ozone Day.
The theme for 2022 World Ozone Day is - 'Global Cooperation to Protect Life on Earth'. The day began with our daily assembly where Ms. Fatima D’Souza who was in-charge of the event had organized the day with meticulous planning. The morning talk was explaining the meaning of World Ozone Day and its significance. A carpet depicting the suffering of Mother Earth was the main attraction of the assembly and the image on the carpet was explained by Ms. Fatima.
The learners then proceeded to their classrooms where the activity for the day took place. The learners did a kite paper activity where an image of hands holding the earth had to be filled with shavings of kite paper. The image was to represent how we with our hands can protect our mother earth. The learners of Junior and Senior thoroughly enjoyed getting their hands messy while doing this activity. The Nursery learners did a colouring activity on a similar activity sheet. It was a delight to watch all the learners engrossed in the activity.
A video on the ozone depletion was also shown and explained to the learners that helped the learners understand the concept better.
The last activity was where an image of the earth melting on a cone was pasted on the almanac and ten points were sent to parents that mentioned ways to contribute towards this noble cause. This was a parent-child activity where they are to select any two ways that they can contribute as a family and write it below the image in the almanac. Our aim behind this initiative is to ensure that we as citizens be actively participative and feel responsible to make a positive change in the environment.
The day ended on a fruitful note where the learners were educated about something that is important and essential as individual to live together in a harmonious society.
